Membership

North East Humanists is an independent local charity that is funded entirely by subscriptions and donations. Whilst a membership with national or international Humanist organisations provides great value for society, don't forget about supporting your local community too! Our membership fees are very low, but they really do support so much grassroots work. For as little as £6 per year, your NEH membership supports activities like:
  • A committee of dedicated volunteers.
  • Charity Fundraising — NEH has helped raise over £25k in the last 5 years for other great causes.
  • Local School Curricula — NEH works with school teachers to deliver lessons about Humanism in the RE curriculum. Our volunteers also sit on committees that help shape RE curricula.
  • Local Events — NEH hosts a public lecture series where invited speakers talk about a wide variety of topics. Numerous social events and discussion groups are also organised.
  •  Non-Religious Pastoral Care — Trained volunteers from NEH work in local hospitals, hospices, prisons, and universities providing aid and comfort to those who request it.
  • Humanist Celebrants — NEH offers advice about trained celebrants for humanist weddings, funerals, and child-naming ceremonies.
  • Public Awareness of Humanism — NEH attends Remembrance Day ceremonies, interfaith and belief events, LGBTQIA+ activities, and many other gatherings. An active profile on the internet is maintained too.

If you don’t want to commit to a full membership, you can still support us by signing up to our email list. Supporters will receive our free monthly bulletin and details of all NEH public events and activities. This is a great way to follow along and see if we are the right group for you.
