Angelos Sophocleus is Durham student who was President-elect of the UK Humanist Students Society. He was involved in a Twitter crowd-attack that ended in him resigning that position and also resulted in his summary removal from both the University of Durham Students Union Committee and the University of Durham Philosophical Society. This was as a result of resending one Tweet on the subject of Trans-Activism. Is this a symptom of current attitudes towards those who are less than extremely careful about the wording of posts on Social Media? Is the gap between social media and real life getting smaller? Are Twitter attacks an online version of a general attack on Freedom of Expression? Angelos will speak about his views and his experiences in this topical subject.
As always there will be plenty of time to socialise and ask questions. Light refreshments will be provided and we charge £1 to cover the cost of running the group all profits go to our Charity of the year currently Equal Arts.
